This list started as kind of a joke, because the message board I take part in (Cinema em Cena) has topics “The most beautiful actress in current times” and “The most beautiful actor in current times”. The former had been busy, while the one dedicated to female beauty had fallen into oblivion. So I took it upon myself the mission to try and resuscitate the topic and created a list of cuties. To make my job easier and not to fall into the eternal Demi Moore, Michelle Pfeiffer, Jennifer Connelly, etc., I established a limit of 30 years of age. Does talent have anything to do with the choices? No. Does attitude have anything to do with the choices? No. This is a list of physically beautiful women, simple as that. Enjoy! ;)
Oh, I’ve placed them in alphabetical order, because choosing favorites would be impossible.
Amber Heard, 25
Maybe you remember her from Zombieland, even though she only appears briefly, or recently from Drive Angry 3D, playing opposite Nicolas Cage. If not, you’ll have the chance to check out her great looks in The Ward, master of suspense John Carpenter’s still yet-to-be-commercially-released new movie, or in The Rum Diary, pairing with Johnny Depp.
Danielle Panabaker, 23
Being around her is dangerous: Danielle has been face to face with notorious mass-murderer Jason Vorhees (from the Friday the 13th movies), saw herself trapped in a catastrophe in The Crazies, played the daughter of a serial killer in Mr. Brooks (with Kevin Costner), in addition to appearing in two episodes of the Law & Order franchises (one Special Victims Unit and the pilot of Law & Order Los Angeles). All of that contrasts with her sweet looks and good girl way. Good times ahead? Apparently not, as the actress is filming the sequel of horror movie Piranha, and she’ll also be in The Ward along with Amber Heard. Which of those dangers would you be willing to face for her?
Emily VanCamp, 25 (completed the day of the publishing of this text – happy birthday to you)
If you like TV series, it’s likely that the Emily VanCamp’s beautiful visage is know to you. She was in Everwood and Brothers & Sisters, adding up to a total of over eight years on TV. Besides, she was the movies The Ring 2 and Carriers, leaving family dramas aside to face fear. Next up for her is film Norman, in which she’ll be sharing the big screen with brilliant actor Richard Jenkins. The movie has been playing in festivals through the USA.
Emma Stone, 22
If you’ve seen Zombieland, Superbad or Easy A, you remember Emma Stone and her tomboy looks, beautiful hair and apparently infallible sense of humor. Well, be prepared: she will play Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker’s first love, in the upcoming Spiderman reboot, expected to come out next year. Will she be a match for Kirsten Dunst’s Mary Jane Watson?
Emma Watson, 21
If you’re paying attention to the world, you know Harry Potter, and if you know Harry Potter, you know Emma Watson. She was chosen, still a child, to bring to life the character Hermione Granger (which I chose as one of the best female characters in cinema, read more clicking here), and since then she has always been, to some extent, under media scrutiny. After wrapping up filming for the last movie of the witch’s saga, she had her hair cut short and drastically changed her looks. And she remained beautiful.
Evan Rachel Wood, 23
She can play a nice little girl and look totally natural. In her next movie, she can be promiscuous, and it still feels natural. Evan is like that, of nearly indefinable beauty. You look and see what you want. Or what she wants you to see. I’d better stop now, I’m falling in love with her again. Oh, yeah, she was Thirteen, Across the Universe, The Wrestler and Whatever Works. She also takes part in TV series True Blood and Mildred Pierce, and she’ll return to the big screen for George Clooney’s next project, The Ides of March.
Jennifer Lawrence, 20
And many of you will ask “Jennifer who?” Until last year, hardly anybody had heard about her. Then she appeared in the lead role of Winter’s Bone, and rose to the Olympus, with an Oscar nomination and the role of Mystique in the soon to be released X-Men: First Class. Someone who can look cute under the make-up and wardrobe of Winter’s Bone has a guaranteed spot here.
Kaley Cuoco, 25
Ok, all right, I’ll make the joke: “Penny (knock knock knock), Penny (knock knock knock), Penny (knock knock knock)”. Yes, it’s her, the muse of the geeks, the star of The Big Bang Theory (and if you think Sheldon is the star, stop reading this text, hahaha). Her movie career is irrelevant, but she’s in the recent Hop. Just for being Penny, she deserves to be remembered.
Kirsten Dunst, 29
Ah, you remember I mentioned her up there, right? Well, she wasn’t left out. She’s been making movies look better since she was 7, but she really caught everyone’s eye with Interview with the Vampire (by the time she was 12). As an adult, she appeared in The Virgin Suicides, Mona Lisa Smile, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Wimbledon and Marie Antoinette. But it was impersonating Tobey Maguire’s love interest in the Spiderman movies that she set herself as a great star (and showed us she’s beautiful as a blonde or as a red-haired). She was one of my deepest crushes. Ah, and she’ll be back soon in Melancholia, directed by Lars Von Trier, one of my favorite present-day directors. I can hardly wait.
Lyndsy Fonseca,24
Lyndsy has worked a lot in television, without gaining notoriety, until she landed two good roles last year, one on TV (as the co-protagonist of Nikita) and one in the movies, as love interest of the super-nerd in the hit Kick-Ass. She appears (with Dani Panabaker and Amber Heard) in the next John Carpenter movie, The Ward, as well as in the sequel of Kick-Ass. Hail the geek culture!
Mary Elizabeth Winstead, 26
An impressive climb is how one could define the actress’ career. After several small roles, she appeared (still as a supporting character, but with more highlights) in Tarantino’s Death Proof and in Live Free or Die Hard (as good old John McClane’s daughter). And then she landed the right role at the right time: she played Ramona Flowers in the movie adaptation of the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World comics and became a muse. In the message board, she’s one of the most cited actresses in terms of beauty. The next step? Starring the remake of The Thing, the cult 80s classic by – again – John Carpenter.
Megan Fox, 24
Presenting Megan Fox is beating a dead horse. She is Megan Fox. She’s been in a bunch of movies and in every one she seduced every men and part of the women. They say she has a terrible personality, but, like I said before, personality doesn’t count. And she is beautiful.
Mélanie Laurent, 28
One of the reasons that made colonel Hans Landa so hateable in Inglourious Basterds is that he’d chase after such a lovely lady as this. After Tarantino’s awesome movie, Mélanie went back to dedicating herself to French cinema – which unfortunately doesn’t always get to Brazil – with the exception of Beginners, with Ewan McGregor, that hits theaters in the USA in June, but has no confirmed date to open here.
Mila Kunis, 27
You may have known her as the flighty Jackie from That ‘70s Show. Mayby you’ve seen her in Max Payne or The Book of Eli. But it’s highly probable that you’ve at least heard of her because of Black Swan. By representing the counterpoint to the insecurity and conservatism of Natalie Portman’s character, Mila Kunis presented herself as not just gorgeous, but also sexy and entrancing. And she has three new projects ahead, the first along with Justin Timberlake and Emma Stone (another babe coincidence).
Scarlett Johansson, 26
Last, but definitely not least (again, definitely), Scarlett is one of those gals everyone expects to find in any list of most beautiful women. And that has been so since she appeared wrapped in a towel in Eight Legged Freaks, going on to Lost in Translation, The Girl with the Pearl Earring, Match Point, Black Dahlia or in leather outfit to impersonate the Black Widow in Iron Man II. She can also be seen in all her splendor, and with curly hair, in the ads for Dolce & Gabbana (from which this image was taken). And the leather clothes are not retired. They’ll come back next year, this time in The Avengers.
This was the list I posted on the message board. The mission over there was accomplished, the topic is working again. I got several suggestions, aside from the girls I’d considered myself and then cast out, but when it came to writing the blog entry, I decided it would be best to just leave things as they were, a laid-back, mostly top of my head selection (I’ve only checked birthdates, due to the age limit). As curiosity, among the girls I’ve considered, but didn’t make the list were Natalie Portman, Elisha Cuthbert, Emma Bell, Missy Peregrym, Odette Annable (formerly Odette Yustman) and Lacey Chabert. The guys in the message board suggested Jaimie Alexander (I hadn’t seen Thor yet, but now I do think she’s really pretty), Alexa Davalos, Kirsten Prout, all of them very pretty. When I was reminded of Camilla Belle, I was very tempted to review the list. But as it turns out, I didn’t. I hope you enjoyed. And if you remember some other cutie, have at it with the comments.
